Project Overview

The end client's website has multiple predefined layout sections, thanks to the original design work by Chuck Fultz of Ronningen Design. For example, these include variations of feature blocks, main columns with text and photos, and calls-to-action. I helped build pages in the client's CMS by combining these options. I also helped with formatting text and loading photography. Recently I redesigned the home page (compare the old and new pages shown further down the page).

Video Map Tour

The Video Map Tour features a map with labels for important camp locations. I designed the labels and identified each location on the preexisting illustration. Andrew Anderson of Ronningen Design then updated the map labels on the back end.

Home Page Redesign

Two years after the site went live, I was asked to make some additions and improvements to the home page. I added scrolling testimonials below the slideshow and changed the layout of the four featured items: video, parents, campers & activities.

One major challenge was designing the interaction between the last item and the footer. Because the footer is complex, the layout works best if the footer is preceded by white space (as the original design does so well). This consideration led to the solution shown below, where I linked the map and the white space using the descriptive content.

Compare to the Old Page

The original home page (first image), designed by Chuck Fultz of Ronningen Design, laid out the four featured items horizontally. As you can see (second image), I retained the photography and used similar colors but assigned each item to its own row.
